Phelps says, "There's some fantastic brick shapes in there, and they became the basis of the architectural style of the steam junction. There's a lot of referencing, shapes and styles that existed in New York, and then we applied them to different location sites. We tried to make everything as believable and real as possible."

Rhyme's apartment is the springboard for the other styles and sets. Phelps says, "We wanted the murder sites to be old and decrepit and for everything to balance off the loft. We tried to achieve a good balance between the confinement in this room, which could have been very claustrophobic, and opening it out as much as possible with the views."

The Bone Collector filmed on location in New York City and Montreal, Canada. Exteriors were shot in New York, while interiors were filmed in Montreal.
